Romantic Antique Valentines in Lemon-Gold Frames

Our Price: $ 65.00
This is a pair of 19th century "bookend" valentines in antique lemon-gold frames. Each valentine is of gold, silver and white foil, cut-out and superimposed over a soft coral backing and matted behind raised gold foil.  The center, oval medallion frames a coral silhouette of an 18th century maiden.  The condition of these romantic compositions is excellent.  There are no stains, visible tears or other problems.  The frames are in good condition.  They are tight at the corners and the glass is intact.  The gold has a few minor scratches and missing flakes of paint, but the wear is in keeping with the age of these items.  We estimate that the valentines ,as well as the frames, are from the mid-19th century.  The photo shows the reverse, where the torn back paper was simply held together with tape some time during the 20th century.  Each frame measures12 in. x 9 1/4 in. x 1".  There are no signatures. The pair of frames weigh 2 pounds, 11 ounces.
