Needlepoint Floral Framed Composition, 18th/19th Century

Our Price: $ 89.00
This is a captivating, early needlepoint composition, all done by hand.  It appears to be on black silk with pink, green, blue and cream floss.  It is not cross-stitch, but may be crewel work. The stitches are very tiny and the overall design of floral wreath and corner flowers is extremely well-executed.  Although we did not take the frame apart to search, there are no visible signatures or dates.  The style of the needlework and the weave of the cloth leads us to believe it is late 18th century or early 19th century.  It was professionally framed in a mid-20th century gold-on-black frame.  The interior of the frame is beaded and there is a bit of distressing to the gilt to give it an antique look.  The condition of this piece as a whole is excellent.  There are no holes, tears, stains or other problems to the needlework itself.  The frame is tight in the corners.  There are a few minor losses of black paint on the sides, but the front, gilt area is quite fine. The glass is intact. As you view the photos, please bear in mind that the glass over a basically black surface served as a mirror and it was very difficult to capture an accurate image of this piece.  There is a certain amount of glare in all of the photos. The outside measurement of the frame is 15 1/2 in. x 15 1/2 in. x 1 1/8 in.  The inside measurement of the frame is 13 1/4 in. x 13 1/4 in. The overall weight of this piece is 2 pounds, 10 ounces.
