This is an antique, sterling silver, two-piece carving set in a rare Gorham pattern known simply as H-140. Each sterling handle bears the Gorham hallmarks and the number of the pattern. These pieces would have been manufactured some time between the mid-19th century and 1880, when this pattern was discontinued. The knife is 8 7/8 inches long and the fork is 8 1/2 inches long. The blade and tines are steel. The condition of each piece is excellent. There are no dents or monograms, no twists or other problems with the handles. The blade and tines are firmly cemented into the handles. There are no markings on the steel. As can be seen in the photos, the steel has turned dark with age. These items are quite old and show very light wear for their age. The overall weight of both pieces is 4.5 ounces.
