Antique Lorgnette, Gold-Filled, Circa 1900

Our Price: $ 52.00
This delicate pair of eyeglasses, or lorgnette, contains lens of an unknown magnification.  The handle is 2 1/4 inches long, and the width from one outside edge of the rims to the other is 4 1/4 inches.  The distance between the lens at the narrowest point is 7/8 inches.  Under the bridge is an impressed mark, which looks like "1/20/ 14 kt."  It is somewhat obscured, but we believe this to be 14 karat gold-filled.  There is no maker's mark. It is yellow gold.  The condition is very good.  The only detractor is a small chip in one lens very close to the rim.  They fold together easily and the clasp works well.  There are no dents or twists in the metal and the lens are held securely in the rims.  There are a few areas where the gold has rubbed away and it reveals the underlying metal to be brass. This item would have been manufactured circa 1900.  It weighs .7 ounces.
